Sport weekend at Evia Island

 

DAY 1: Time 08:30am:

We take the ferry from Rafina to Marmari. When we arrive, we head for Karystos where we visit the old town and harbour. 11:00am: Following a short and scenic drive, we reach Myloi village which is the starting point of the footpath to the refuge of Ochi mountain.

Our ascent shall take us past the famous ancient quarries located at the top of the valley of Myloi. After a 2.5-3 hour trek we arrive at the shelter of mount Ochi which is located next to a forest of chestnut trees (the famous “kastanologgos”).

There we prepare a quick meal and have some rest before setting off for the final ascent to the top of mount Ochi. 16:00pm: In the afternoon we start our climb for the top where we shall see typical examples of the impressive Drakospita (stone huts built during the 4th century B.C.).

Our hike to the peak and back to the shelter lasts approximately 2.5 hours. The option of getting to the shelter by car is also offered to any team member who is not willing to actually follow the hike.

DAY 2: 08:00am:

Having spent the night in the shelter and following our breakfast, we start our descent past the saddle pass of the mountain until we reach the entrance to the Dimosaris gorge.We hike down the gorge (6-7 hours trekking on a shaded and picturesque trail) and pass by small lakes and waterfalls, until we reach Lenosaioi village and end up on Kallianoi beach. There, we shall enjoy a refreshing swim in the crystal waters of the Aegean sea before having our lunch in a local traditional taverna. 16:00: Following our lunch, we drive to Marmari where we embark on the ferry to return to Rafina.
